Katya is six years old and already has a big dream: one day she wants to lead South Africa, so that every child has a safe bed to sleep in and a story at bedtime.
Her start in life was hard. Her mother was unwell, facing serious health struggles, when Katya was born, and the family had no steady home. They moved from place to place, and none of them ever felt like home.
Today Katya is part of a new family. It is different from the one she was born into, but it is a caring one. They helped her get back to learning, and she now goes to school online, from a computer at home.
She loves it. She explores many subjects, makes friends, and stays safe while she does. She is doing well at school and she is happy.
Katya's wish to lead is really a wish to look after others. She wants to help children who need extra love and support, because she knows what that feels like.
